About

From Houston, TX.

At home everywhere.

Jodie Calvin is from Houston, TX, and graduated from Energy Institute High School in June 2022. At Energy, Jodie was often selected as project manager for exhibitions by teachers and peers because of his leadership skills. Jodie is a current Sophomore student at Prairie View A&M University. He is pursuing a degree in Agriculture with a concentration in Plant and Soil Sciences. In summer 2022 he was selected to be in the Summer Bridge Program. This opportunity is a scholarship to start school early and earn college credits.

Jodie was selected to work on an internship with Sweetwater Farms, a local urban farm. Through the mentorship of Chaz Daughtry, he has learned about farm entrepreneurship and various planting techniques. Recently, Jodie received the opportunity to shoot a commercial for Bobcat Company for their global farming marketing campaign. The commercial is slated to debut in early 2024. The internship experience has been invaluable and has undoubtedly given him knowledge about working with others and following his dreams of owning his own farm.

Jodie uses art to express his view of the world and loves to design album covers, collages, and feature photography. His love for plants began with watching gardening sessions with his great-grandmother, and his grandmother and has elevated with his dad. While volunteering with the Houston Food Bank he learned about the issue of child hunger in America. Jodie has continued to volunteer his time at the food bank and decided to pursue eradicating food deserts with a focus on communities of color. After college graduation, Jodie plans to become a Horticulturist who helps communities have access to fresh food and will use his art to design materials for the farming industry.
